In-Store Play Code of Conduct

A cozy place to play, connect & belong.

At Sanctuary Games, we believe that gaming is about more than winning. It's about friendship, imagination, discovery, and sharing something we love.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor, a first-time player, or just here to make new friends, everyone deserves to feel welcome, comfortable, safe, and respected.

To help make Sanctuary a great place for everyone, we ask all players and guests to follow these simple principles.

Play for Fun. Win with Grace. Lose with Dignity.

We love a good competition, but winning should never come at the expense of someone else's enjoyment.

  • Celebrate great plays, whether they're yours or your opponent's.
  • Be gracious in victory and respectful in defeat.
  • Avoid gloating, taunting, excessive complaining, or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
  • Remember that casual games are about having fun, while competitive events should still be played with courtesy and integrity.

The best players are the ones people look forward to playing with again.

Respect Everyone at the Table

Our community includes people of all ages, backgrounds, identities, personalities, and experience levels.

  • Treat fellow players, staff, and visitors with kindness and courtesy.
  • Harassment, bullying, discrimination, intimidation, and personal insults are never acceptable.
  • Be patient with beginners and offer guidance without being condescending.
  • Respect personal boundaries, belongings, and different play styles.
  • Keep disagreements civil. If a dispute cannot be resolved respectfully, ask a staff member for help.

Everyone belongs at the table.

Be a Good Ambassador for Your Game

Every player helps shape our gaming community.

  • Welcome newcomers and help them feel included.
  • Explain rules honestly and fairly.
  • Avoid gatekeeping, excessive rules-lawyering in casual games, and deliberately making others feel unwelcome.
  • Respect the difference between casual and competitive play.
  • Follow the rules and tournament policies of each game, including decisions made by event organizers and judges.

Help build the kind of community you'd want to join.

Respect Our Space and Keep It Clean

Sanctuary is a shared space, and everyone plays a part in keeping it comfortable.

  • Clean up your table when you're finished.
  • Dispose of garbage, food wrappers, and drink containers appropriately.
  • Keep food and beverages away from other people's games and belongings.
  • Treat tables, chairs, terrain, games, and store property with care.
  • Return borrowed games, supplies, and furniture to their proper places.
  • Keep aisles, exits, and walkways clear.

Leave your table ready for the next group to enjoy.

Come Ready to Share a Comfortable Space

Gaming brings people together, often around the same table for several hours. Please be considerate of those around you.

  • Arrive wearing clean clothing and maintaining reasonable personal hygiene.
  • Be mindful of strong body odours, perfumes, colognes, and other scents.
  • Respect everyone's personal space.
  • Keep noise at a reasonable level, especially when other events or shopping are taking place.
  • Use appropriate language, particularly around children and families.

A comfortable gaming space is everyone's responsibility.

Respect the Store, Staff, and Other Guests

Sanctuary is both a gaming community and a retail store. We want everyone to enjoy being here.

  • Follow reasonable directions from Sanctuary staff and event organizers.
  • Be considerate of customers browsing and shopping.
  • Keep personal belongings organized and out of walkways.
  • Ask permission before touching another person's cards, miniatures, dice, or other belongings.
  • Respect scheduled events, table reservations, and designated play areas.
  • Do not engage in theft, cheating, deliberate damage, or disruptive behaviour.

Our staff are here to help everyone have a great experience.

Help Us Keep Sanctuary Welcoming

If something makes you or another guest uncomfortable, please speak privately with a staff member.

We take concerns seriously and will handle them as fairly, respectfully, and discreetly as possible.

Staff may offer a reminder, issue a warning, end someone's participation in an event, or ask someone to leave when necessary. Serious or repeated violations may result in suspension or loss of in-store play privileges.

Our goal is always to maintain a welcoming, enjoyable community—not to punish honest mistakes.

Our Golden Rule

Be the reason someone wants to come back.

Teach someone a new game. Compliment a clever move. Welcome a new face. Help clean up. Make a friend.

A great gaming community isn't built by the games on our shelves.

It's built by the people around our tables.

Thank you for helping make Sanctuary Games a cozy place to play, connect, and belong.
